Student councils have many purposes and missions, including:
Leadership – Provide opportunities for students to develop leadership skills by organizing and carrying out school activities and service projects
Representation – Act as the voice of the student body and present their ideas to the administration and faculty
Community – Plan events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare
Democracy – Provide a living workshop of democratic processes through activities like elections and constitutional representative assemblies
Personal growth – Encourage personal growth of leaders through participation in district, state, and national meetings and organizations
Citizenship – Promote citizenship, scholarship, leadership, human relations, and cultural values
Involvement – Provide students with a safe and fair forum to express their views and opinions, and involve them in the decision-making process
Partnership – Ensure that adults and students work in partnership, sharing ideas, taking action, and striving for continuous improvement
